Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai‘ is a B grade movie that not many have heard of. One reason that the movie is still being spoken about is because of Pakistani film actress and the Big Boss contestant Veena Malik’s debut in Bollywood. Though the reason is not enticing enough for the audience, the makers seem to think so. Directed and produced by Anand Balraj, the movie stars Veena Malik, Jackie Shroff and Shakti Kapoor among all the other insignificant names. Music is given by Aabfm and though the name of the composer is intriguing, music is not. Album has five original tracks that try to reflect the mood of the movie.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai Music Review: Madam Malai

Album begins with a song titled ‘Madam Malai’. The title itself would suggest that expectation should not be so high. It is sung by Ritu Pathak and though she has tried her best to bring on some melody, lyrics and music do not help in any way. It’s a song which would be discussed more for the weird lyrics than any other quality.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai Music Review: Vada Pav

‘Vada Pav’ is a song that would leave the listener with mixed emotions. While the lyrics are peppy and do try to explore the so-called mystery of Mumbai, the fact is that by now listeners are already over it since this used to be a very popular theme during late 80s and early 90s movies. Probably the situation demanded the same in the movie and hence Vinod Rathore is roped in who is a quintessential Mumbaikar.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai Music Review: Mumbai Money Hai

‘Mumbai Money Hai’ is a song which has been categorized as Veena Malik’s item number. Music is not unique and sounds like an old B grade movie track. Mamta Sharma, who specializes in such item numbers and has sung spicy and memorable tracks of the likes of ‘Munni Badnam’, has not been able to do much to this song. Lyrics and music don’t impress either. Hopefully Veena Malik gyrating on the track would give audience something to cheer about.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai Music Review: Apun Ki Life

Amit Kumar and Bali Brahambhatt sing the next song ‘Apun Ki Life’. This one is in Bali’s typical style with a Hindi rap. It’s a song which aims at highlighting the theme of the film and need of the characters. However it does little for a music listener as it has next to nothing to catch your attention.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai Music Review: Nadiya

‘Nadiya’ is the only song which makes some sense in this album. Lyrics, though cliched in philosophy, are still more meaningful then any other song. Sung by Arun Daga, it’s a song which would have done better if placed in any other album than this. However, it is the only ray of hope in this album.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai Music Review: The Last Word

Overall, its an album which would disappear in a jiffy and won’t leave any impression in the listener’s mind. One does wonder decision of Pakistani starlet Veena Malik to leave her home and come here to act in movie like this. Music is definitely not a strong point here and now one can’t hope anything from the film either.
