The music album of Chennai Express is no genius. It is a bunch of seven songs, that is meant to compliment the film’s action-comedy premise. Coming from the brand of Rohit Shetty, it is best to expect surprises. I won’t deny this album was bizarre and funny, but being Vishal Dadlani’s work you expect better. The music director duo have aced contemporary music scenario with their upbeat song and somewhere despite all the fun Chennai Express tried to render, it lacks the ability to sustain itself on your playlist. Don’t expect shelf life but expect some enjoyable music.
1,2,3,4… Get On The Dance Floor – Chennai Express Music Review
Beginning the album with a raunchy ‘booty shake’ number, the quirky lyrics of Amitabh Bhattacharya do the magic in this song. Vishal Dadlani’s energy along with Hamsaki Iyer’s enthusiasm, this track cannot be written off definitely. May be not a Munni but with its tangy South flavor, you’ll find yourself tapping your feet to this one.
Titli – Chennai Express Music Review
Trying too hard to be breezy, this one ends up being cheesy. Sung by Chinmaye and Gopi Sunder, this song does begin on a very promising note. Its Tamilian flair works well on you, but the effect dilutes and exhausts itself in its runtime that lasts nearly for 6 minutes.
Tera Rastaa Chhodoon Na – Chennai Express Music Review
In the voice of Amitabh Bhattacharya and Anusha Mani, this song needs greater publicity. One of the most refreshing tracks of recent times, there is an indomitable endearing quality in this song! Bhattacharya’s simplicity overwhelms and the Vishal-Shekhar’s music aides it magically almost!
Main Kashmir Tu Kanyakumari – Chennai Express Music Review
I think it is the lyrics which work the best for me here. The North-South horizontal dichotomy makes up a few incredibly amusing instances. There is a good deal of bubbling energy in this song. The singers Arijit Singh, Neeti Mohan and Sunidhi Chauhan will fascinate you with their caliber and pull you through the song with spirits that never droops.
Ready Steady Po – Chennai Express Music Review
With its ensemble singers and rappers, the song with its strong techno beats is great. The Ready Steady Po will soon manage to become hummable! Still, the song itself doesn’t have the same quality. It makes for a decent one-time hear but will eventually fade out of your memories just as easily.
Chennai Express – Chennai Express Music Review
Sung by veteran S.P Balasubramaniam and Jonita Gandhi, the lyrics of this track fail you. However, Vishal Shekhar’s music is catchy. The background minus the lyrics is so wonderful, that it will make you ant to mute the words off it. It is soothing to hear S.P Balasubramaniam’s voice in a mainstream Bollywood song after a long gap. Unfortunately the track itself is way below his standard. But it is his voice along with the striking beats of this song that glistens in this track in the end.
The Last Word – Chennai Express Music Review
It is an extremely average album. Vishal-Dadlani has surely given better albums. But a film’s music needs to be more relevant than genius and hopefully the duo will succeed in that. The music of the title track lingers and Tera Raasta is its graceful bit. I am going with a 2.5/5 for the film’s music. Sufficiently entertained with this, I have a positive hunch that it will seem better on Rohit Shetty’s film than as a standout album!
