Bhaag Johnny starring Kunal Kemmu, Zoa Morani and Mandana Karimi in lead roles is an upcoming thriller drama directed by Shivam Nair. Ever since the songs of the film have released, they have received a lot of popularity. Let’s take a look at how the album is.
This song has two dimensions and both are quite distinct. On one hand, the music is extremely peppy and perfect to get the party mood on, but the lyrics cross another limit of crassness. I was okay to hear songs about ‘daaru’ but this song is like a ‘booty call’ anthem. Inspired from a South song with the same beats, Daddy Mummy has already become quite a sensation and is expected to find itself a place in the top party songs of the year.
One of the most popular romantic songs that was once famous thanks to Sonu Nigam’s soulful voice, Iss Qadar Pyaar Hai now gets revamped. The new song has been sung by Ankit Tiwari and the music has been composed by Arko. While Arko made ‘Aaj Phir Tumpe Pyaar Aya‘ from Hate Story 2 better than its original, unfortunately, he does not get lucky with this one. The romantic number would have created more impact had it been the original one but since we have heard Sonu croon it, it’s impossible to hear this version.
Yo Yo Honey Singh is back after a hiatus and well, don’t worry, he is still stuck to the same style of music. Ankhon Ankhon is an average number that once again irritates, thanks to its lyrics. Whatever happened to the good old days when songs were written with better words than having sexual innuendos. If Daddy Mummy is the ‘Booty Call’ song, then ‘Ankhon Ankhon‘ is a pick-up song. Yet, you can’t miss the upbeat nature of this song and hence you are sure to hear it more than once.
Kinna Sona comes as a surprise in this album. On reading ‘Kinna Sona‘, I was hoping fingers crossed that it is not a revamped version of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s song by the same name and thankfully it isn’t. Mithoon composes this song beautifully and special mention to singer Sunil Kamath for singing it so genuinely. In an album that has little regard for the lyrics, this one is gem.
Mithoon is quickly turning out to be a composer who has got a great taste for using multiple musical instruments with full capacity. Meri Zindagi gets full marks on its musical arrangements. Indian Idol fame, Rahul Vaidya sings this mellow number and it is a delight but the violins convey much more than his singing act. This is one of the best songs from the album.
The Bhaag Johnny album is musically good but lyrically bad. Just don’t remember the song lyrics and you can groove on the party numbers. The two slow tracks too are hummable and overall the album makes up for a decent hearing. I am going with a 3/5 for this album.
