Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira is all set to release next week. The action drama has been directed by A. R Murugadoss and also stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Anurag Kashyap in key roles.
The film’s music has been composed by Vishal Shekhar.
Here’s a look at the songs from the film:
The first song to have been released from this album was Rajj Rajj Ke. The track is high on beats and is supposed to be a number that brings out the angst of the lead character. It reminds us a lot of Badlapur‘s Jee Karda which had a similar feel to it but was a much better affair thanks to Divya Kumar’s vocals.
This song comes in three different versions. Original song has been crooned by Nahid Afrin and Vishal Dadlani. Another version is by lead actress Sonakshi Sinha herself and one remix.
Amongst all three, the original song with Nahid’s vocals works the best. The remix is more like a club mix that does not gel with the lyrics and seems completely unnecessary.
Sonakshi Sinha’s own version too is not impressive enough.
Baadal is supposed to be an emotional number sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. Something seems to be amiss with this number, either it is the beats that do not blend well or just the fact that it hardly finds a connectivity with the listener.
Arijit Singh is a mandatory singer for all albums it seems and hence gets a song in the Akira too. Purza, the number is as weird as the word ‘Purza‘ itself. The lyrics of the song go like, “Main purza tera, na aadha pauna tera, poora tera”. This is probably one of the most disappointing song Arijit has crooned in recent times. The light song has good guitar strumming portions but that’s that, it never rises above that.
Shekhar Ravjiani has sung a popular Marathi song ‘Haravali Pakhre‘ from Balak Palak. The song gets a Hindi version, Kehkasha Tu in Akira. I don’t know if it is the lack of any fresh compositions that makes them to revive this popular song in the album or what but this is certainly a lame attempt. The essence of the original song is completely lost in this one.
The soundtrack of Akira is highly disappointing. This is Visha Shekhar’s weakest album in recent times. I am going with a 2/5 for this album.
