1. Vidya Balan – Tumhari Sulu

Residing on the premise of “Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hai”, Balan gives a performance of a lifetime with Tumhari Sulu. She proves how no one can come close to perform characters having a real touch. Portraying the role of a mid-aged late night radio jockey, Vidya is one of the most deserving candidate to be on this list.

2. Zaira Wasim – Secret Superstar

Post stunning us in Dangal, everyone waited to see how well she can do exploring something as innocent as Insia in Secret Superstar. She not only acted well but also amassed the best compliments despite having so many memorable performances attached to the film. Youngest on the list, promising a bright future post being just in two movies.

3. Bhumi Pednekar – Shubh Mangal Saavdhan

Shining in a movie having a backdrop dealing with a complicated male issue is a tough task & Bhumi does it with brilliance. Though the movie had Ayushmann & his issue as the limelight but Bhumi with her charming presence left no stone unturned.

4. Kriti Sanon – Bareilly Ki Barfi

When you’ve two super-talented actors in Rajkummar Rao & Ayushmann Khurrana opposite you – there are minimal chance of you even getting noticed. The movie revolved around the female character Bitti and totally justifying the witty writing, Kriti was top of her game in this film.

5. Bhumi Pednekar – Toilet: Ek Prem Katha

Scoring her 2nd nomination in the list, Bhumi who is just a 3-film old in Bollywood has already proved why she’s someone to look out for. Adapting skin of the characters she play, Bhumi in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha stood out even infront of Akshay Kumar’s stupendous performance.

6. Sridevi – Mom

Proving her mettle for the nth time, Sridevi with Mom showed how she is an actress Bollywood will always be proud of. Carrying the entire film on her shoulder, she never for a second makes you feel she’s acting her character. The most veteran on the list, Sridevi stands tall delivering one of the best performances of 2017.

7. Alia Bhatt – Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Continuing the quirkiness of Dulhania franchise, Shashank Khaitan retained the actors but changed their characters in Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Alia Bhatt’s portrayal of Vaidehi – a small town independent girl was on point despite having stereotypical characteristics to it. It seems hard for next few year’s nomination list to not have Alia Bhatt in the Best Actress category.

8. Saba Qamar – Hindi Medium

Saba lived the role of a frustrated desi parent in the times of Western culture overtaking local in Hindi Medium. During major parts of the movie she took the driving seat from an actor like Irrfan Khan making Hindi Medium the film what it is today.

9. Anushka Shetty – Baahubali 2: The Conclusion

One of the biggest movie in the history of Indian cinema, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion apart from its lavishly designed action sequences is also remembered for its breathtaking performances by the leads. One of which them is – Anushka Shetty’s portrayal of Devasena. Having flashback of Anushka’s character, she proved how she can play the role of any age without any glitch.
