Every year some fresh talent is introduced in the film industry and it is the debut films that pave the way for the future superstars of Bollywood. In 2015, we saw some brilliant performances from our female debutantes.

Here’s a look at the nominations for Best Debutante – Female of 2015:

Shamitabh, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush also marked the debut of Shruti Haasan’s sister, Akshara Haasan. In spite of not having a meatier role, the actress managed to create an impression with her performance. Unfortunately, the R. Balki film was a box office dud.

Bhumi Pednekar – Dum Laga Ke Haisha

Dum Laga Ke Haisha turned out to be a sleeper hit of 2015. Bhumi Pednekar debuted with this film and well, with an extremely strong performance, we hardly felt if it was her debut. Putting on oodles of weight for Sandhya’s role, Bhumi gave her best contribution. She was confident enough in her first film which is quite impressive.

Shweta Tripathi – Masaan

Masaan became one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2015. The film which revolved around two stories from Varanasi had Shweta Tripathi playing the female lead in one of them. Her character of Shaalu was extremely charming and lovable and had some spark. For a debut, Shweta’s performance was outstanding.

Athiya Shetty – Hero

Athiya Shetty (Suniel Shetty’s daughter) debuted with Hero last year. While the film itself did not make any impression, Athiya’s character of a brat was quite ordinary. Starring opposite Sooraj Pancholi who also debuted with this film, Athiya’s act did not find many takers compared to her co-star.
