Akshay Kumar aka Khiladi Kumar kicked off 2015 with Baby. The edge-of-the-seat thriller had him play a fearless secret agent. As Ajay, the actor was brilliant with his slick action and a no-nonsense act. Akshay not only looked extremely fit, he also made sure to give his character the required body language. The patriotic film was loved by the audiences for his stellar performance.
Badlapur was not a regular film. This revenge drama dealt with a lot of gory stuff. Playing the emotionally wrecked and disturbed character of Raghu, Varun Dhawan made sure to prove his acting mettle. Touted to be his best performance, Dhawan showed an impressive transition from his other romantic characters in the past. His act of a 40 year-old father, who has lost his wife and son was matured and strong.
Piku was one of the most-loved films of 2015. Playing a octogenarian who is obsessed with his bowel movements and constipation, Amitabh Bachchan’s character of Bhaskor was beyond perfection. Emotionally binding yet funny, the film’s spirit was dependent on his character and Big B exactly held onto it. His physical transformation for the role too was impressive enough.
The sequel of Tanu Weds Manu Returns released in 2015 and it turned out to be a huge success. Reprising his role as Dr. Manu Sharma, R Madhavan was once again extremely lovable in the sequel. Playing the naive character with immense talent, the actor’s subtle act needs a mention. While the film’s female lead, Kanagna Ranaut took away all the praises for her double role, one cannot forget the simplistic act of R Madhavan.
One of the best films of the year, Bajrangi Bhaijaan won hearts of the audiences across all ages. The film starring Salman Khan was nothing like his previous ones. Seen playing the innocent character of Pawan, Salman gave one of his best performances in recent times. His act minus all the ‘starry’ glamour was a breath of fresh air.
Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam did not find much success compared to his previous films but his performance in the film was certainly top notch. As the middle class man from Panji, he seemed quite believable at the same time mysterious going by the film’s theme. While Ajay is usually loved by the audiences in films which have an action backing, Drishyam was different and a successful attempt on the actor’s part to show his versatility.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Tamasha did not meet with enough box office success but the actor made sure to give a brilliant performance in the film. Ved’s character required a layered performance as the character has two starkly different sides and Ranbir completely nailed it. His lasting performance gave the film a great deal of depth.
Ranveer Singh has in a short while has proven to be a bankable star. The actor who played Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani was unbelievably good. Right from getting his Maharashtrian tone right to his brilliant sword fighting scenes, Ranveer proved why he was the best choice for the role. The film met with huge success thanks to his stellar performance.
