Every year several films release but only a handful of them appeal and stay with the audiences for a long time. A perfect film, requires a water tight script, stellar performances, super hit music and a clever direction, when all of these elements confluence together, it is an experience.

Akshay Kumar starrer Baby was one of the first films of year to taste success. The film was appreciated by the critics as well as the audiences for its gritty story and patriotic nature. The film’s Argo like presentation by director Neeraj Pandey was also impressive. Overall, the edge-of-the-seat thriller promised enough action and its no nonsense outlook of dropping commercial elements was a welcome move.

Badlapur starring Varun Dhawan in the lead was a gory revenge drama that was not digestible for everyone. The raw action of the film was quite disturbing but Varun Dhawan’s skilled performance at this stage of his career was certainly a treat. Another great actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui played the lead antagonist, making the film a great watch. Sriram Raghavan’s promising direction and also the popular music, gave Badlapur an amazing backing.
Starring Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan was one of the most loved films of the year. The slice of life drama had a brilliantly crafted script at hand. Shoojit Sircar’s vision of making the film an emotionally riveting one was bang on and with his perfect cast, the film could certainly not have failed.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns is one the rare cases where the sequel works more than the prequel. The film was much more successful box office wise compared to the original one. Kangana Ranaut’s double role act was praised and one of the most key elements of the film remained its quirky dialogues. Anand L. Rai managed to make this sequel a memorable one.
Director Remo D’Souza came up with a sequel for his popular dance film ABCD with popular faces this time. Starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, the film reprised Prabhu Deva’s role from the original. With popular music, a good looking cast and a commercial story, ABCD 2 managed to make a business much more than expected and also more than its prequel. Remo’s dance film was enjoyed a lot by the audiences.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan was one of the most successful films of the year. The emotional drama drove family audiences to theaters and also had one of Salman Khan’s best performance in the recent times. Kabir Khan’s honest filmmaking worked wonders. The lovable Harshaali Malhotra also contributed hugely to this film which revolved around her. From the beautiful setting of Kashmir to a heart-wrenching story, Bajrangi Bhaijaan had everything working in its favor.
Bajirao Mastani had been Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most ambitious project for long. Turning this beautiful dream into reality, Bhansali made a film that was a visual treat with its opulence. To top that, the stellar performances of Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra made this film a unmissable one. The music too was popular and had a desired effect in the film.
