Lara Dutta On 2 Decades Of Being Miss Universe: “I Am Not Someone Who Wants To Be Immortalised In People’s Minds”

India gloomed with pride when Lara Dutta was crowned as the Miss Universe back in 2000. This year marks 20 years of her being the Miss Universe. Lara who made her digital debut with Hundred, joined Koimoi for an exclusive chat where she opened up about the 2 decades and why she is not in the limelight often.

In the exclusive chat, when asked about her 2 decades long journey as the Miss Universe and is there anything that she would want to change, Lara Dutta said, “No, No, it has been an amazing 20 years. I always say that when I close my eyes, I always feel like, it was just yesterday that I can see myself in that red gown, that crown, and when I open my eyes and it feels like it was somebody else’s life it was so long ago. It has been an incredible journey and an experience, so I would not change a thing. But I have been really looking forward to crowning a successor, I have ben saying that since a long time. It is one thing in life that makes me proud to say I am India’s Miss Universe.”

The Hundred actor further opened up on not being in the limelight and how she is a home body. Lara stressed on the fact that she does not want to be immortalised in the minds and she had her share of everything.

“I allow my work to speak for itself. Plus I believe in living in the moment. Also a lot of people have been asking me is the lockdown hard for you, is it difficult. To be really honest it has not been difficult at all, because I am a home body. You won’t see me at a lot of Bollywood parties, I am not a social butterfly or anything like that. And I also feel that in many ways that helped me in keeping myself grounded,” said Lara.

She added, “My friendships in the business are based on very good solid bonds and not on whether I have attended you party or whether I have come for your office ka ribbon cutting. So I know that today the friends in the business I have are genuine friends, there is a tremendous amount of respect. It’s the way I chose to live my life. So I am not really worried, I have had the fame, I have had the fortune, I have had the everything, I am not someone who wants to be immortalised in people’s minds. They will remember you if they have to regardless.”

Lara Dutta is now seen in Disney Plus Hotstar’s new show Hundred, that released on April 25. The show stars Rinku Rajguru and Karan Wahi alongside Lara.
