Ramayan starring Arun Gohil (Lord Ram), Dipika Chikhlia (Sita), Sunil Lahri (Laxman), Sanjay Jog (Bharat) amongst others, witnessed its re-run amid lockdown. The show witnessed some major TRPs, which even helped Doordarshan witness a 40000% increase in its viewership. However, some viewers are now slamming the channel of cutting scenes from the telecast. Below is all the scoop you need.

It all began when certain viewers took to their Twitter handles and shared how they see some scenes missing from the telecast. A user even went onto question the CEO of Prasar Bharti, Shashi Shekhar, to why he didn’t see scenes like Ahiravan and Diksha by Ravan to Laxman.

Ramayan Viewers Accuse Doordarshan Of Deleting Scenes In Rerun, Prasar Bharti CEO Clarifies

“@shashidigital Sir why important events like Ahiravan and Diksha by Ravan to Laxman cut down…. feel disappointed”

Another mentioned that several scenes starting from preparation of Ram’s return in Ayodhya to Bharat and his mother Kekai’s reunion have been edited.

While several others too marked the CEO and expressed their disappointment over the edits on Ramayan re-run, Shashi Shekhar responded too and clarified that there have been no cuts whatsoever. However, the show was received with limited rights, and hence, some of the scenes are missing.

“There have been no cuts, they were not part of the original production. The beauty of our epics are the many stories, side-stories and interpretations. Not every nuance can possibly make it into a single television script but perhaps leaves the door open for future productions,” wrote the Prasar Bharti official.

Furthermore, when asked if the channel had any plans to feature them on YouTube or any other platform, he answered, “Please note Doordarshan was given limited rights by the Rights Holders and media was aired in an as provided condition on a war footing despite the constraints of lockdown and without the luxury of timely previews etc . We will definitely explore for the future.”
