The Citizen Amendment Act laid out by PM Narendra Modi’s government brought forward one of the most violent reaction from the citizens of India. People were upset with how the government took such drastic steps and protested against in huge numbers. Mumbai also witnessed a silent protest where we saw actor like Farhan Akhtar take part in it. Now, famous poet-lyricist Gulzar Sahab has also shared his views on the bill.
Recently, Gulzar Sahab was invited as a chief guest for an event. The poet talked about Citizen Amendment Act and shared how he felt about it. In fact, he even took a dig at PM Narendra Modi as he addressed the audience as friends and said that he was going to address them as mitron but stopped.
“Doston (friends) — I was going to address you as ‘Mitron’ but I stopped. I was afraid when my friend Yashwant (Vyas) arrived to meet me from Delhi. These days one is afraid of all Dilliwallahs. One never knows what new laws they may bring,” addressed Gulzar. For the uninitiated, Mitron is PM Narendra Modi’s way of addressing the nation in his quintessential style.
“Even today, even in these circumstances, if there is one voice that is pure, speaks clearly and speaks the truth, it is the writer’s voice. It is like a flag,” added Gulzar. He encouraged the writers to speak the truth and educate people about the current situation of the country.
