Priya Prakash Varrier’s Sridevi Bungalow is garnering the mixed reactions ever since its first look teaser was revealed. It is being bashed for its controversial content and the use of late actress Sridevi’s name.
The teaser features a scene in which Priya Varrier is lying in the bathtub, referring to Sridevi’s tragic death. Following the release of the teaser, producer and husband of Sridevi, Boney Kapoor was infuriated and also expressed his objection over movie’s name.
According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, a source close to Boney Kapoor said, “He is disgusted by all those who have chosen to be associated with this lurid project. When he heard the film’s title and saw the first look, Boney had sent a legal notice to the producer. But so far they’ve ignored the notice. Boney intends to take even more strict legal action, asking for a restraining order against using Sridevi’s name in the title. They can make what they like — it’s a free world. But they can’t use that name.”

Boney Kapoor sent a legal notice to the makers of the film, objecting to the film’s title as well as a scene that reportedly shows a character named Sridevi’s death in a bathtub, much the same way the eighties actress Sridevi died in February 2018.
Talking about the controversy, the actress Priya said, “It is actually the director’s and the producer’s concern because I am just portraying a character they gave me. Intentionally it was not on our agenda to hurt anyone’s personal feelings.”
