What’s Good: Display of complex emotions in a way everyone can connect, superior quality drama, Ishaan Khatter’s memorable debut.

What’s Bad: The balance between what’s right and what should be right tumbles in between; also because the good things happening in the film takes an artificial turn at few places but as they say a great dish sometimes requires few tarty ingredients.

Loo Break: On a whole, this film will attract people who don’t believe in taking breaks while watching a film.

Watch or Not?: Only if you can digest high-voltage dramas; there’s nothing typical-Bollywood in the film.

User Rating:

It starts with Amir (Ishaan Khatter), a drug shifter, gets in a ruckus with the local Police. Chasing through the busy streets of Mumbai, Amir runs for his life to his soul sister Tara (Malavika Mohanan). He hands her a packet of drugs in the mess initiating the problem for everyone in the scene. Tara keeps the package safe and promises her to give when the danger fades.

She misplaces it and on the quest of acquiring it back she gets jailed in the case of an attempted murder. The story is about whether or not she has really killed someone; also it’s about the tenderhearted transformation of ferocious Amir. It’s a journey about two human beings find out the genuine meaning of life.

Beyond The Clouds Movie Review: Script Analysis

Penned by Majid Majidi and Mehran Kashani the script of Beyond The Clouds is full of surprises. Though it reveals the dark truths but also balances it with equal altruistic incidents. In cinema it’s often said to capture a natural act by a kid is the most difficult thing to attempt; Majidi with this one has mastered that area. With movies like Baran, Children Of Heaven he has already proved his brilliance with kids but with this one he just takes it a step ahead.

The duo makes sure to capture the streetstyle beauty of Mumbai; from swirling fresh smelly clothes on Dhobi Ghat to the case among hundreds of fluttering pigeons they’ve covered the heart. Arguably Mumbai is more than what’s shown in the movie, but Majidi’s vision captures what’s required for the film. The melancholic outflow of emotions helps to maintain the connect with the characters throughout the film.

Beyond The Clouds Movie Review: Star Performance

Ishaan Khatter – I can’t believe this could be a first movie for anyone. Living up to Majidi’s expectations is in itself an achievement for this guy who holds the future of Bollywood in his safe hands. The confidence of performing well roars with this presence. In each and every frame, he knows he’s doing well and that depicts on screen. Watch him in his emotional outburst scene, it’s one of the best to come out from the world cinema.

Malavika Mohanan, mutual feelings, how can someone do so well in their debut film. At first I had some reservations against her character in the dramatic scenes but as the movie passes by she only becomes stronger. By the end she emotes her heart out. GV Sharada, the woman who houses 3 national awards, delivers yet another deserving performance as paati. Each and every child artist in the film is a hero; thanks to Majidi’s connect with these little wonders.
