Deepika Padukone FINALLY Reacts To Swara Bhasker’s Open Letter On Padmaavat

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has finally released and it’s running successfully at the box office. Even after facing several backlashes and protest from the fringe groups, Padmaavat has managed to win our hearts with its grandeur.

In the film, we saw spectacular performances by Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.

But it seems the criticism for the film is not stopping anytime soon. Recently, Swara Bhasker wrote an open letter on Padmaavat’s Jauhar scene. She wrote that she felt reduced to a vagina while watching the Jauhar scene. The Nil Battey Sannata actress was trolled on the social media while some of them agreed to her.

Yesterday, in an interview to India Today, Deepika Padukone replied back to Swara’s letter and she said that for her it’s a celebration of women and their strength, power and dignity. She said, “She probably missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the film. You probably went out to buy some popcorn and missed the initial disclaimers that come out. I think, secondly, the fact that it is important to view a film in totality and to see in which period it was set in. Third of all, I think for me this film is not just about the act (Jauhar) that they all committed, but it stood for so much more. For me, it’s a celebration of women and their strength, power and dignity.”

The Piku actress also spoke about the threats she received from the fringe groups. She said, “I don’t succumb to threats; I am fearless.” She said though agreeing that the attack on the movie sets was a huge letdown. “I told him (Bhansali) that we should put the film on hold. But I was willing to risk everything. A lot more was attacked. I felt that I stood back for a larger thing,” Deepika said.

Speaking about her parents, Deepika said that her parents believed she could take care of herself despite staying alone. During the interview, Deepika recalled an incident from Bengaluru when she was 14 years old as how she stood against a man who was trying to touch her. She said, “I could have ignored the incident and pretended that nothing had happened, but I turned back, caught the man by his collar and slapped him. From that day, my parents knew I could take care of myself.”
