Academy and Golden Globe Award winner A. R. Rahman was honoured with Japan’s Fukuoka Prize for 2016 on Monday. He received this award for his outstanding contribution to the Asian culture through his music.
Previous Indians who received this award were, sitarist Ravi Shankar, dancer Padma Subrahmanyam, historian Romila Thapar, sarod player Amjad Ali Khan and historian Ramachandra Guha.
Fukuoka Prize is awarded since 1990 to the individuals and organisations. who preserve and promote the rich culture of Asia. A. R. Rahman honours list includes Padma Bhushan, National Awards, Filmfare Awards and several other accolades.
A.R. Rahman’s upcoming projects include Mohenjo Daro, Ok Jaanu and 2.0 (Robot 2).
