The manner in which Sunday collections of Neerja doubled that of Friday, it was quite obvious that audience would continue to step in on Monday as well. This is what happened as the Ram Madhwani directed film went on to bring in good numbers even on a working day. With 3.5 crore* more coming in, the film has now netted 25 crore* already.
It is now on the cards that the momentum would stay right through the first week, which further ensures the second highest Week One of 2016.
This is how Week One collections of films released in 2016 look:
Airlift – 83.5 crore
Neerja – 25 crore (still running – first week expected in 34-35 crore range)
Ghayal Once Again – 34.25 crore
Wazir – 30.05 crore
Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 – 29.65 crore
Sanam Re – 25.82 crore
Interestingly, first four films in the list – including the Sonam Kapoor starrer – are all highly dramatic affairs with good dose of action and thrills thrown in.
Fox, which had enjoyed a 200 crore success with a musical family entertainer Prem Ratan Dhan Payo last year, has now extended its successful run with Neerja as well. Guess they are managing to play their marketing card pretty well now, which is ensuring at least a good opening for each of their films.
*Final numbers awaited
Note: All collections as per production and distributor sources
