Akshay Kumar’s long standing record of highest Week One, which was established by Rowdy Rathore in 2012, has been broken, and that too in six days flat. Airlift, which has been flying high ever since its release, had another good day in theaters as it collected over 6 crore on Wednesday. With this, the film has crossed the 78.5 crore mark.
Rowdy Rathore, which is Akshay Kumar’s biggest ‘masala’ Superhit ever, had collected 79 crore in its first week and now Airlift, which is his biggest niche success in last 25 years, has managed to equal it in a matter of six days flat. Now this is indeed a huge achievement for the actor as well as the film, since it also demonstrates how audience has been craving for some good meaningful content on screen that also entertains.
Last year when Baby – which belongs to the same genre – had released, it had managed a Week One of 63.82 crore and a lifetime of 95.5 crore. Now this number would be surpassed in 9 days itself by the Raja Menon directed film. Holiday, which too was in the same space but had a lot more commercial appeal, had a lifetime of 113 crore and that would be surpassed comfortably as well.
Once that happens, it would be interesting to see the kind of distance that Airlift covers. The film soon will be getting into the HIT zone and is marching towards being a SUPERHIT.
