With every new film that hits the theaters, we see the male leads flaunting their chiseled, brawny oiled bodies with waxed chests and yeah, that’s quite supposed to be the selling point for the film. Off late, the film industry has some what become obsessed with the phenomena of six pack abs and eight pack abs. Lets not forget, this is only what we are fed on-screen and that you will find pot-bellied men who eat buttered ‘Aloo Parathas’ in their breakfast in the actual crowd.

While recently, Shah Rukh Khan was seen showing off his newly attained 8 pack abs physique for Happy New Year, controversies of Salman’s fake abs in Ek Tha Tiger spurred. Even Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn had come under the scanner for their muscled look in PK and Singham respectively. In fact, such was the heat of this airbrushed physique issue that even a film like Happy Ending had an entire scene how actors show fake abs in a film.

But what came out really startling was actor Akshay Kumar stating in an interview to the popular entertainment daily Bombay Times that, in spite of working out for the past 32 years, the actor has never achieved the six pack abs feat. A shocker as it was, the actor did not hesitate from mentioning that his industry ‘friends’ well, contemporaries we may say, have been conforming to unhealthy methods for attaining such physiques in a short period of time. The actor stressed on the fact that he is committed to naturally working on the body.

Well, this certainly put us in a fix as to why the requirement and such compulsion on having 8 packs rather than a plain fit body. No one ever had a problem with a chubby Shammi Kapoor being a leading man because we relied on his acting skills. It seems just like the 100 and 200 crore figures in terms of business, six packs and 8 packs are the new benchmark for the ‘hero’ category’.
