While we have seen some brilliant films, some unexpected surprise packages and some breathtaking successes and dampening lows in the first half of the year gone by, there have been a multitude of faces who have returned back on screen, more than once in these six months. From a Deepika Padukone to a Neil Nitin Mukesh, here we trace the ceremonious highs and the unceremonious lows of the stars who have not just one outing but multiple outings this year-half.

How did their films fare? Were they successes or failures? Lets have a post mortem right away.

Deepika Padukone:

Her successful stint that started with an exciting Cocktail of her Acting skills and brilliant emotions in the film of the same name has been consistent with her two films scoring huge numbers at the box office this year. While Koimoi’s Top 10 films based on box office earnings show that Deepika has undisputedly ruled the charts with her 190cr+ YJHD and her 100cr+ Race 2 bringing her commercial acclaim and developing Deepika as a trusted brand, it is Chennai Express which is expected to open with an earth shattering record, given the gravitas of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. With most actors fading away in one or two chance outings, our OSO babe has finally found her footing and how!

Chitrangada Singh:

Whilst Deepika’s portfolio is all about the tremendous highs, Chitrangada’s filmograph, which is known for its powerful enactment and essaying has received a huge thumbs down with both her films this year turning out commercial failures at the box office. With a plot as confused as Inkaar, even Chitrangada’s rock solid attitude and prowess could not manage to steer the film across the hit mark. Leave aside I, Me aur Main which necessarily had even lesser potential with our dusky babe just becoming a meager showpiece. No wonder, the film which even the film’s hero stayed away from during the promotions sank without a trace.

Neil Nitin Mukesh:

The leader of the pack, who already has had three releases in the first half of 2013, Neil Nitin Mukesh has failed to rise upto the expectations. None of his three flicks namely David, 3G or the recently released Shortcut Romeo could sail through, courtesy several issues that cringed the films at large. While Neil’s David act was a self assuring performance, one that spoke volumes of what this young starlet is capable of, the film definitely could not get audience to the theatres, much so because of its extra artistic touches. 3G was an out and out washout with very little to offer but Shortcut Romeo which had a luring premise drowned into the dungeons for the lack of a proper release at the mass belts.

Vivek Oberoi:

If Neil’s films could not work inspite of some brilliant striking performances, Vivek’s case turned out to be a little ulta. Well, rightly so, Vivek’s films, as expected, had nothing to offer and the star which was born out of Company is slowly ending up being tagged as a disaster, courtesy his recent films all being box office failures. While people are busy writing their success stories, Vivek’s Jayantabhai ki Luv Story and Zila Ghaziabad are reasons enough to script out the failure stories with aplomb. However, his luck might soon see a swift change as he will be soon be seen alongside Hrithik Roshan in the year’s most anticipated film Krrish 3.

Arshad Warsi:

A mix and match of films in his kitty, Arshad might have lost out with his not so enthralling stint in Zila Ghaziabad but he shunned his critics away with a lively and amusing act in one of the biggest surprise hits of the year: Jolly LLB! Dealing with the cynicism and the sarcasm flavor with adept sanctity, Arshad fuelled this non-starry film down the roads of success. In the months to come, Arshad will be seen in the not-so-popular rom-com Rabba Main Kya Karoonhowever the actor is going to be back with the sequel (Dedh Ishqiya) of his critically acclaimed film Ishqiya.

John Abraham:

He mesmerized us all with his villainous act but when it came to him playing the dishy hero, he failed miserably. Or rather the entire story, the plot and the boring screenplay of I, Me aur Main failed to captivate the audience totally. But then he made up for it with an amazing performance as the anti-hero (yet again!) in Shootout at Wadala. Essaying the role of Manya Surve with panache, John stole the show in an absolute ensemble cast of sorts. Not to mention, his Race 2 and SAW graced in some great numbers at the box office, with Race 2 clubbing his membership in the coveted 100 crore brigade as well.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui:

A rather unconventional actor, Nawaz is known for his sheer brilliance and perfection when it comes to cinema. And getting paired with the glam doll Bipasha might have caused a lot of frowns, but a bland series of supernatural instances could not fetch the cross roads right for Suparn Verma’s Aatma as well. And the industry magnum opus, Bombay Talkies could hardly get people to the theatre, although it was one film of substance and some immensely enriched performances.

Emraan Hashmi:

From being tagged as another Hemant Birje to the next Salman Khan, this superstar has come a long way. Emraan, who has faced criticism as well as applauses all his life is one man who is known for his versatility and his choice of roles. With each film strikingly different from each other, Emraan is a brand in himself. But brand Emraan suffered huge jolts while both his films – Ek Thi Daayan and Ghanchakkar fared averagely at the box office and definitely were miles away from the huge expectations that it carried with the tag. Ghanchakkar surprisingly was way below the anticipations and was a clear showdown! All eyes set on his upcoming film Ungli, which is his last shot at making 2013 monetarily worthwhile for Emraan.

Randeep Hooda:

Another power packed performer who is famous for his cinematic sheen and unconventional sex appeal Randeep Hooda did manage to get a hit by Murder-ing Love this Valentine. Made on a stringent budget, Murder 3 had a huge return on investment of sorts while Bombay Talkies could not provide much of a push in the right direction. Having said that, the bold move of kissing a guy on screen was applauded by many and brought Randeep a lot of critical acclaim.

Aditya Roy Kapur:

Another starlet who has been in the industry and patiently waited for his turn to play the protagonist in a film and when he did, he turned heads with a scintillating story that enthralled all, and invoked the amount of angst, ethos, pain and emotion like no other. Aditya Roy Kapur made his name with Ashiqui 2, a film that had a staggering return on investment of around 612% and he followed it up playing supporting to lead Ranbir Kapoor in the biggest box office money spinner this season, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. In short, like his co-star Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur’s 2013 has been a milestone year in his otherwise blunt career so far!
