She has acted in many Bengali movies and has varied shades in her portfolio, ranging from TV Commercials to Print Ads, topping it all with numerous fashion shows. She is intransigent on declaring to the world that models even can be good actresses. Bidita abides by her own rules. Besides being an Economics Graduate, she had also lent her voice on All India Radio, and has even scripted dialogues for a Bengali Commercial.

Santragachi lanes to city of dreams, Mumbai; how has the voyage been?
Somewhere inside me there was a hidden desire to be an actor and I became one! It’s not a smooth voyage. People still think that models can’t act. But if you see most of the female actors come from modeling back-ground! It took almost 5-6 years to get a break.
On being tagged and looked for as Kangna’s replacement or Deepika’s voice, how much all of it ticks you off? What do you have to say?
I ain’t anybody’s replacement. I am a completely different individual who wants to do good films. I really don’t understand what people mean when they say that you will fit in “Kangna type of roles”. When first look of “As the river flows” was out people said I am trying to copy Deepika from “Khelenge Hum Je Jaan Se”. Why should I? I was playing an Assamese girl in sari who rides bicycle. My film was made 1.5 year prior to KHJJS. I like both Kangna Ranaut and Deepika Padukone but I don’t like the people who try to put a new actor down by saying he/her is just a look alike of a reputed actor.
Enlighten us more about your character of Meghaa Banerjee in “FSWL”
A girl from Shantiniketan goes to Sydney after bagging a scholarship from a university. She meets three guys, good, bad and obnoxious fat boy and many incidents follow. These three guys try to impress Meghaa in their own style. It’s a comedy film. I am playing a serious girl whose only aim is to study, get a degree and make her family proud. A girl who is new to a big city like Sydney, how she opens up and gets accustomed to a culture, a girl who all her life concentrated only on studies falls in love! It basically talks about a slice of her life in 2 hours.
How much do you relate yourself with Meghaa?
Megha is just like me. We both are from interior West Bengal, Economics student and share a conservative background. I had to retain all the nuances a girl from that region will have and speak Hindi in strong Bengali accent. Megha is bubbly, chirpy and deeply rooted to her values. It was my first visit to Sydney as well. I was surprised and shocked. I just played myself.
