It’s goodbye to laughter and slapstick for Akshay Kumar. Though he tasted success with his laugh fest ‘Housefull 2‘ earlier this year, he doesn’t seem to have any intention whatsoever to get into a familiar zone for quite some time to come at the least. The decision to work in the remake of Tamil flick ‘Thuppakki’ (which by the way means ‘Gun’) is pretty much a reaffirmation of the industry circle talks that Akshay is back in action mode for good.
“He has had his share of comedies and family dramas. Now action is definitely going to hold prominence. He had started hinting about that during the shooting of ‘Rowdy Rathore‘ itself. He was enjoying the entire process and now when the film’s box office status has rose to the likes of ‘Dabangg‘ and ‘Bodyguard‘, he is pretty much in synch with the audience taste. Films like ‘Thuppakki’ remake, ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2‘ and ‘Special Chabbis’, each of which he has signed in the interim period, is a clear example of how months ahead look like for him”, says a source.
Since each of these three films would release in 2013 and there isn’t any scope whatsoever for one more film to be plugged in, all future assignments of Akshay would have to wait till 2014. That may see a comic turnaround for Akshay though since Sajid Khan has already declared ‘Housefull 3‘ for April 2014 arrival. Perhaps, the trend may just get revisited two years down the line but as of now all scripts coming Akshay’s way need to carry a mandatory action stamp to them.
