Another year of 2024 has passed, and the May 2024 box office collection has been very basic, with only 116.29 crore coming in with five releases, including Hollywood’s Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes. Ideally, it was Rajkummar Rao’s month, with Srikanth and Mr & Mrs Mahi both releasing in May.
May 2024 Box Office Collection
May 2024 started with Rajkummar Rao’s Srikanth, which was released on May 10 and opened on 2.41 crore. It clashed with the Hollywood biggie Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, which collected 3.25 crore in India. Next in line was Manoj Bajpayee’s Bhaiyya Ji followed by another clash between Mr. and Mrs. Mahi and Savi, closing the month with decent numbers.
In total, the five films in May collected 116.29 crore, with Srikanth earning 46.79 crore, the highest for the month. Meanwhile, the low ticket prices helped the films earn much better than they would have.

Last year, the month of May finished 243% higher than this year’s earnings, with only four releases bringing a total of 422 crore at the box office. In fact, it was only The Kerala Story’s box office success that made the whole difference in the numbers for May 2023.
Best Performing May Release
In the last 10 years, the best-performing film released in the month of May has indeed been The Kerala Story, with a 238.27 crore box office collection. The second best has been Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns that earned 152 crore at the box office and was released in the year 2015.
Best Performing Month Of May
The best-performing month of May in the last 10 years has undoubtedly been 2023. The second-best was the year 2015, which saw six releases, including Deepika Padukone‘s Piku, which was a hit at the box office. Piku earned 79.92 crore at the box office.
Biggest May Disaster
The biggest disaster of May also came along in 2015, with Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma’s Bombay Velvet earning 23.67 crore at the box office. Other films might have earned lower than this, but when we compare the losses, this one goes down in History!
