The latest trailer for The Penguin sees Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot, alias Penguin. The trailer delves into the DC villain’s contemplation of the posthumous recognition bestowed upon a local gangster by the community during his upbringing, prompting Cobblepot to ponder the significance of such acknowledgement. “Can you imagine being remembered like that?” Cobblepot queries an off-screen character. The trailer doesn’t spill much about the story, but it does give us quick peeks at Cristin Milioti playing Sofia Falcone and Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni.

Announced in September 2021, “The Penguin” continues the saga of Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot shortly after the events depicted in “The Batman 2023,” as he manoeuvres to assert his authority within Gotham’s criminal hierarchy. The production of the eight-episode limited series commenced in March 2023 but experienced a hiatus in June of the same year due to the WGA strike. With the strike resolved, filming resumed in November 2023, wrapping up in February 2024.

Following “The Penguin,” “The Batman Part II” will follow, alongside forthcoming projects, including a television series centred on the Gotham City Police Department and standalone films delving into various antagonists.

Cast of Penguin

In a dynamic cast lineup, Colin Farrell takes on the role of The Penguin, while Cristin Milioti portrays Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown embodies Salvatore Maron, and Michael Zegen brings Alberto Falcone to life. Alongside them, Rhenzy Feliz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Theo Rossi, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, David H. Holmes, Michael Kelly, and Craig Walker inject energy into undisclosed roles. Speculation abounds regarding Robert Pattinson‘s potential return as Bruce Wayne, alias Batman, but Warner Bros. and DC Studios have yet to confirm his participation, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

Future of The Batman Saga

Warner Bros.’ recent announcement about delaying The Batman Part II has made everyone shift their attention to The Penguin. It’s supposed to be the only new addition to The Batman Saga for the next two years. Initially slated for release on October 3, 2025, the eagerly awaited sequel has been rescheduled for October 2, 2026. Robert Pattinson’s reprisal of the central vigilante role is confirmed, with the sequel co-authored by Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, the latter of which has contributed to the script of the inaugural instalment without formal credit. Despite the absence of a specified rationale for the delay, Jeffrey Wright, the lead actor in The Batman, disclosed in January 2023 that he had yet to receive a script for The Batman Part II, intimating potential script-related concerns underlying the film’s deferment to 2026.
