Robert Downey Jr recently won an Oscar award in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in Oppenheimer. In Christopher Nolan’s 2023 biographical war drama, the actor played Lewis Strauss and left a major impact with his outstanding performance. The Oscar-winning film also stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Gary Oldman, Benny Safdie, Matthias Schweighofer, Jack Quaid, Rami Malek, and Josh Peck.
In his career of three decades, RDJ has won hearts with his incredible acts in several movies, including Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes, Due Date, The Judge, Tropic Thunder, and many more. For the past many years, Robert Downey Jr has been surprising his fans with exciting choices. One might think the actor is quite careful about what he signs and must be thoroughly going through the scripts and stories. However, in an interview in the past, the Spider-Man: Homecoming actor said that after working for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, he has zero regard for scripts.

Robert Downey Jr On Having Zero Regards For What’s Printed On The Pages
In an interview with theoffcamerashow, the Oppenheimer actor was asked how he handles the scripts offered to him. Robert Downey Jr said, “Well, it’s changed. Since working with Jon Favreau on the first Iron Man, I have practically zero regard for what is physically printed on the pages when I go to work. And sometimes, the better the writing is, the more annoying it is, because it’s more likely I will not be able to innovate within it. So it’s a problem. It’s gotten to the point where director Todd Phillips, when we were finished shooting Due Date, said to me, ‘I figured it out. You hate paper’.”

The Avengers: Endgame actor added, “I think some of that is my own hubris and ego. I come from a family of writers and I like writing, and I think I at least know how to write for myself, and often times if I take a stab at a scene, all the characters can come off a little better. So, what’s my process? Over the last five or seven years, it’s been kind of like drunken monkey. Now, I keep the attention on the issue at hand: the issue is bringing the best me I can bring to the set every day. With what we’re doing, you can just pick anything from the Chinese menu, and anything’s really fine as long as I’m in good shape, and it feels good, and if the blocking doesn’t feel like we’re doing a teleplay and all that stuff.”
Meanwhile, after Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr has not signed any new movie yet. However, the actor will appear in The Sympathizer series, created by Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar. Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s novel of the same name, the political black comedy drama also stars Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen, Toan Le, Vy Le, Alan Trong and Duy Nguyen. RDJ has donned multiple looks for the series and is also the executive producer. The Sympathizer is slated to release on HBO on April 14, 2024.
