Shah Rukh Khan has been a star ever since he arrived, singing loudly Koi Na Koi Chahiye Pyaar Karne Wala in the 1992 released film Deewana. The actor was awarded the Best Male Debut Filmfare for his performance in the film. However, SRK has always been a hungry actor. It seems hungry for love, for accolades, for work, and for awards.
In 1993, while he was just starting his career, he did something that was unimaginable for a newbie, that to an outsider to pull off. However, it seems SRK is being called the king today for a reason – he knew how to strategize and how to hustle.
In 1993, just a year after his arrival, Shah Rukh Khan won the Best Actor award in both categories. While he won the main awards for his film Baazigar, he won the Critics award for his film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. The ceremony happened on February 12, 1994. In fact, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa even won the Best Film Critics Award on the same night.

Now, here’s the catch: while the awards were being given to films that were released in 1993 and the ceremony happened on February 12, 1994, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was released two weeks later, on February 25, 1994. Personally, it was Shah Rukh Khan’s favorite film as he once mentioned in one of his social media posts, that was shared by a fan club.

The film was so deeply troubled that it was very difficult to release it due to the lack of buyers. But then came the Prince in his shining armor, who absolutely knew what to do. He very strategically submitted Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa for the Filmfare Awards, and the jury saw the film that had not even been released, something that rarely happens in the industry.
As expected by Shah Rukh Khan, the film won the award, and SRK was awarded Best Actor. Kundan Shah, the filmmaker, revealed in one of his interviews with The Indian Express how SRK pulled the film out of trouble as well. Every day on the shoot was filled with uncertainty as far as the finances were concerned. Every shot seemed like a victory.
In an interview with Rediff Kundan Shah once revealed that Shah Rukh Khan bought the rights to his film since Darr & Baazigar worked well, and while Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was ready before those two films and Shah Rukh Khan had already moved to Karan Arjun, he decided to end Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’s trouble.
He found a co-producer for the film and made an effort. The filmmaker was quoted as saying, “Vijay Gilani and he (SRK) agreed to buy the film. So Vijay Gilani, Venus (Worldwide Entertainment), and Shah Rukh became joint producers and bought the Bombay territory. That’s how the film was released in Mumbai.
So, by the time Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was released, it was already an award-winning film. However, it did tank at the box office and took almost 10 years to recover its cost. However, now it is one of the most loved films of Shah Rukh Khan‘s career.
And if you don’t remember how brilliant he was in the film, here, have a look at a beautiful scene from the film where he probably peaked as an actor. The video was shared by a fan on Instagram.
