Three distinct films release this weekend – Mirzya, MSG The Warrior – Lion Heart and Tutak Tutak Tutiya. Let’s talk about Mirzya first. The film is a quintessential romantic musical drama and when it comes to the launch of two youngsters, this is also a favorite genre over the decades. Bobby, Ek Duje Ke Liye, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Ishaqzaade – one such hallmark film every decade has been the trend so far. One common factor amongst all these films is the fact that most of them have been tragedies. Those familiar with the folklore of Mirza-Sahibaan would know that tragedy strikes here as well.

The makers though would indeed be hoping that at the Box Office, there is good news indeed for the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed film which brings Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher on screen. The promotion has been around for quite a few months, though the fact remains that when it comes to newcomer affairs, majority of films grow on the basis of word of mouth. It would be no different for Mirzya as well and as long as a decent start comes in (4-5 crore) with growth over the weekend, there would be something to cheer about for all involved with the film.

MSG The Warrior – Lion Heart is third in the series of MSG films and just has been the case with Part I and II as well, it is mainly catering to the cult following that the Saint enjoys. The film is seeing a release primarily in North India and this is where certain single screens have seen block bookings by the followers.

Tutak Tutak Tutiya is a trilingual (Hindi, Tamil and Telugu) starring Prabhu Dheva, Sonu Sood and Tamannaah Bhatia. The film has an interesting promo and the songs are catchy too. It appears to be a neat comedy in the offering though somehow one feels that the promotion could have been all the more aggressive so that the film registers an even stronger presence. If it clicks with the audience over the weekend, it could have a good stay since there are three open weeks ahead before Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil arrive.
