2017’s action drama Raees definitely created a stir as it became a success at the worldwide box-office. Managing to speed past the 200 crore mark at the Worldwide Box Office, and stopping just shy of the coveted 300 crore club, the film was a great success. However, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer has now lost its spot to Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi Medium.
Raees, which released on January 25, managed to collect a whooping 192.51 crores at the domestic box office, and another 95.20 crores at the International Box Office at the international box-office. The film’s total worldwide gross collections stands at a 287.71 crores. On the other hand, Hindi Medium grossed 99.36 crores in India, significantly lower than the Shah Rukh Khan starrer.
However, it left Raees in the dust when it came to the international market, collecting an unprecedented 192.58 crores till now. What’s even more impressive is that all of its international collections so far come just from China, where the film is currently running. The film currently stands at a worldwide gross of 291.94, and is expected to earn a lot more.
Hindi Medium did have an impressive run at the domestic box office. However, the film has managed to surpass all expectation with its run in China, even managing to beat films like Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan in both opening day collections as well as opening weekends. It’s a trailblazer for content-driven filmmakers, and might even encourage many of them to release their films worldwide.
