Warnings of tsunamis and cyclones have affected Bollywood as well. After a massive cyclone hit the Punjab region on 11 April, the unit of Vishal Bhardwaj’s Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola were affected by the bad weather.
The cyclone caused a 20 ft light tower to break and fall, which injured 5 unit members who were in the vicinity. The shoot was happening on the fields and due to the heavy rains and storm the roads were blocked with fallen trees. Other unit members carried the injured on the shoulders to safe place from where they were taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
Three injured light boys were operated on late last night and two surgeries were done today morning. The condition of the injured unit members is being monitored closely. The shoot has been stopped for the moment.
Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma, who are part of the shoot and were present during the accident, were not injured. Says director Vishal Bhardwaj, “My unit and I are extremely distressed by last night’s cyclone. Our only heartfelt concern is for our colleagues who were hurt badly on the set.”
Most of the shooting is complete and the unit has just 14 days of work left. The team is ready to get back to work once the injured members are out of danger.
